Chief, Port Authority of NY & NJ Police Department (Ret.)

Bob Belfiore is a career Police Officer of thirty-six years, four with the Newark Police Department and the last thirty-two years with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.  Bob has been the Commanding Officer of the George Washington Bridge, Criminal Investigation Bureau, and Southern Zone in the Port Authority Police Department, which encompassed Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey Marine Terminals and Staten Island Bridges.  He also served for five years as Chief of Detectives and Counter-Terrorism for the Port Authority Police Department in charge of all investigations and infrastructure protection.  Bob is retired as Deputy Chief of Department, Chief of Departmental Administration and Senior Chief of Department.

Bob has been married to his wife Christina for nine years.  He has three children: Stacey age 44, Brian age 41, also a Port Authority Police Officer and Jillian age 34.  He also has five grandchildren, RJ, fifteen years old; twins Hayden and Jared, nine years old; Kale, nine years old and Blake, seven years old.

Bob is one of the originating founders of New Jersey Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.  The New Jersey chapter began in 1984 and Bob was appointed Deputy Director.  He held that position for eight years and then was appointed Director of New Jersey Law Enforcement for Special Olympics and has held that position for the past thirty-seven years.

Bob holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from St. Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey and a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. 

Bob is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and the United States Secret Service Dignitary Protection School.  He is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the International Police Association, the Italian American Police Society of New Jersey and Special Olympics Board of Trustees.

During Bob’s career with the Port Authority Police Department he has been awarded numerous awards and citations from the department, including the Executive Director’s Unit Citation for his involvement with Special Olympics and the World Trade Center Distinguished Service Medal.  His awards have been Humanitarian of the Year by the Italian American Police Society of New Jersey and Man of the Year by the International Police Association.  Bob and his State Committee brought the Law Enforcement Torch Run’s annual donations from $7,000 a year to 4 million dollars annually to support New Jersey Special Athletes.  He is also a member of the International Law Enforcement Hall of Fame for his work with Special Olympics.
