Good afternoon,

It has recently been brought to our attention that there may have been a problem with the printing and mailing of examination notifications to Police Sergeant candidates for the June 1st test date. All examination notices have been re-sent and candidates should receive them within the next 2-4 days. In the meantime, we are providing candidate scheduling information on our website: http://www.state.nj.us/csc/about/news/safety/index.html. Police Sergeant candidates can enter their Applicant ID number (SSN) to obtain information regarding their test location and time. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. Please share this information with your staff as appropriate. Thank you for your assistance.

Video and information submitted by a member:

This is a video of a search warrant at a grow house in Florida. There are a few different camera angles of the entry. From looking at all of the videos it appears like LE had pre- surveillance on the location and initiated the arrest or approach to the location when the first suspect comes out. The surveillance vehicle moved during the approach and may have lost track of S1 when suspect two comes out of the house and is encountered by LE. It also appeared that S2 distracted LE from S1 giving him an opportunity to engage the arrest/entry team. According to the article one officer was hit three times. Watch the full screen version. Some of the points to take away include:

Pre surveillance should remain in place until a positive handoff is made to arrest/entry team. Must have commms between teams.

Planning procedure for encountering suspects on approach.

In this video as in the Ohio traffic stop the suspect is hit by handgun rounds and stayed in the fight a long time. Long guns are better.

S1′s use of cover

Shot placement…speaks for itself

Reminds us to check vehicles and consider them danger areas until cleared. We all have passed them by with people sleeping in them etc and got lucky…

There are more you will see with your groups.

None of this is critical of the LE involved or what they did. This is a great training tool that you can with your groups to discuss tactics and mind-set.
